Transfer news:Manchester United scout Leeds star Kalvin Phillips ahead of potential move
Manchester united appear to be serious in their search for a new midfielder as Kalvin Phillips is the latest player to be linked with an Old Trafford move.
According to The Sun news, United coaches Mike Phelan and Kieran McKenna have been scouting the Leeds star in recent weeks ahead of the potential move.
The duo watched the 23-year-old in action against Birmingham and Preston North End as Marcelo Bielsa’s side, who are currently third in the Championship, aim for the Premier League promotion.
Despite being somewhat of a late bloomer, Phillips went on to appear in over 100 games for the Peacocks after making his debut in 2014. The Englishman is a key player for Leeds, scoring 1 goal and registering an assist in 15 Championship games so far this season.
Phillips, who mainly plays in the defensive midfield position, is a realistic target for United as the Red Devils are looking to build their squad around young British talent.
It’s worth pointing out that the rivalry between United and Leeds, known as the Pennines derby, dates all the way back to 1923.
Therefore, transfers between the two clubs are quite rare as Alan Smith is currently the last player to move from Elland Road to Old Trafford (2004).
